55: [Private, hackable] Another Mistake
It's hardly surprising. In all likelihood there's no truth to it. It shouldn't have this effect...

It shouldn't have an effect. I have no rights to it, of that I'm fully aware. No rights, and no desire for...

...This is simply another mistake to correct. Nothing more.

I'm so sorry. I don't even know I saw it, I merely clicked some things out of curiosity and had no idea.....

I'm rambling, aren't I?

Indeed, though in this place privacy is the thinnest of illusions. The prevailing view seems to be that a man's business is everyone's business.

It does seem that way. However, everyone needs their privacy, whether it's in person or over the Internet. That's unfair to everyone involved.

I've been on the community for a long time, Miss Granger. I've been foced to give up most of my preconceptions of what can and can't exist.

I take it you mean 'witchcraft' in a more literal sense, then? Rather than simply as a religion comprised of superstitions and intended to ensnare the gullible with promises of power.

You're right, but one would be surprised. Much of the early forms of witchcraft aren't nearly as sophisticated as now. Although they most certainly did not dance naked or make pacts with the devil.

If I recall the history of my world correctly, neither did most of the people that were accused of witchcraft.

I imagine your school's curriculum is quite unique. Your classes on 'Witchcraft and Wizardry' make up a large portion of your schedule?

Things fabricated by people who didn't understand. Innocent people dead because of foolish beliefs. It's hard to understand humans sometimes.

Yes. Charms and Transfiguration and Potions are the main subjects, but there are plently of electives. Are you employed anywhere?

Often one should be grateful for their lack of understanding. Some things only certain minds were meant to know.

Those are your core subjects? Are these electives more mundane in nature?

I'm a prosecutor with the city of Los Angeles.

...I agree.

Ah, somewhat. Personally, I enjoy Ancient Runes and Muggle Studies and Arithmacy. I'm a Muggle-born myself, but it's fascinating to see how the wizarding world perceives those who live without magic.

A prosecutor. I've met good people on the community who work in law.

Then only a portion of your world's populace is capable of using magic? Is it only available to those who have the means to learn it, the ones who can afford such schooling? A profession, if you will.

There seems to be a preponderance of law enforcement and related personnel here...which I suppose shouldn't be surprising, given the number of criminals on the community. Several of my associates are also members...and they are indeed good men.

In a way. It's true that only some people can use magic, but most of the time money isn't an option. It's genetics instead. Those who have parents or other ancestors who use magic can, however, that's not always the case. There are those from magical families who can't use it and there are people with no magic in their families at all that can, like me. No one has figured out why yet.

True. There seem to be less of them joining lately so at least it's a respite. Would you know a Detective Gumshoe or a Phoenix Wright?

The attempts to discern the cause have been medical in nature, through genetics research?

The community was rather inundated for a period. I know both of them well. The Detective and I work closely together, and Wright and I have a...history. We've faced each other in court many times.

The wizarding world doesn't poke its nose too much into why they have magic. For most, it's simply the way things are. If only someone would do the research....

Hmm, you're right. Maybe it's a break like the viruses. Your cases must have been exciting to watch.

If something needs to be done and no one will accept the responsibility, sometimes a person must take it upon themselves to see that it gets done. It sounds as though the research could prove valuable.

I'm sure they were, though they were even more stirring from the prosecution's bench. Wright has a habit of injecting trials with his own peculiar brand of chaos.

That would be such a big undertaking that would last years--but it would be valuable. It would have to wait until after school though.

I imagine so. Mr. Wright is a funny man.

Obviously.

Your school has very little in the way of the core subjects one would find in a...'muggle' school? Is 'Muggle Studies' a single class, or a compilation of classes covering subjects which are unrelated to magic?

He can be amusing at times. The courtroom, however, is no place for such antics. Whenever Wright is involved, trials invariably become far less dignified and far more complicated than need be.

((OOC: People reeeeally like to talk about love. :D And now I've spent all of today's tagging on these threads from before and starting a couple of new ones, I'm such an idiot so I'm behind there and ngnhuinhbgiknhu. ;_;))

So much of the problem would be funding. Professor McGonagall may help on that end....

It literally teaches what life for Muggles is like. Most wizards don't know anything about telephones or cars or television. Most of them take their magic for granted.

Then you don't think of him as a good attorney?

They say that when inside frail glass eggs that are painted to look like jewels, there's always something underneath. Paint the cracks well, and you can sell them like new, better yet, get ceramic glue and paint over in a high retrograde paint.

I suggest you buy some paint, Edgeworth. Your cracks are showing.
